There's no need to get condiments involved

Differences lead to division. Differences in social and economic status inexorably lead to political division, but this takes it just a step too far, from utterly ridiculous to "Are you freaking kidding me?". Came across it while reading the news on google.

It's the Republicans' answer to Heinz ketchup. Wow.

W ketchup? Oh, sure, that's got to be a non-partisan condiment. We all know who the makers of that brand supports. But of course, it's only fair that the "other side" gets to offer a rebuttal:
http://www.heinz.com/jsp/nonpartisan.jsp
"Heinz Ketchup is a non-partisan condiment that simply stands for great taste. It's enjoyed by Republicans, Democrats and Independents," said Debbie Foster, vice president of corporate communications for H.J. Heinz Company. "Heinz has been the favorite of Americans across the political spectrum for 135 years, and we have no intention of engaging in a political food fight now."

I guess it shows how the divisive nature of politics seeps into every aspect of our lives, turning everyone against each other, and forcing us to choose sides on even issues such as ketchup. Huh.

Ah, and here's a quote from Clinton that I'm paraphrasing, because I forget exactly what he had said: "Bush had a great opportunity to unite the country. Instead, he tried to push it to the right." That's not entirely true; the country was united... probably for a few months, but definitely not through any of the president's doing. Remember what Bush said? "If you're not with us, you're against us", and I'm sure he didn't mean simply the countries outside the US.

And so here we are, making the most important decision of the year, nay, the most important decision of our generation... Dubya ketchup? Or Heinz?

Too much food

Just realized that there is less than a week until summer school is over and it will be time to move back to the dorms. I should stop buying food. Ice cream doesn't count.

I figure that I have at least another five or six meals worth of food that I can still cook up, but tomorrow's dinner is just whatever's left over from earlier tonight. In addition, I might go home on Friday and come back on Sunday. In that case, it's only Monday through Wednesday's dinner of next week that I'd have to cook. In addition to that, I still have a few microwave pizza's and another microwave dinner. I guess it gives me time to look over however much I've spent in food over the last two months. It does seem like a lot.

$20,000 for beans? They're magical

We spend $20,000 each year on our education. During the spring in one particular LS demo, we counted beans.

Summer session classes have been kinda amusing. At least taking stats, now I'm able to calculate how much my roommate is getting screwed playing poker. His win percentage before the flop on the last three hands was 66%. He lost all three of them. The percentage of losing one hand is 33%, and so the likelihood that he loses all three is 3.6%. It probably hurts more to say that the probability that he was supposed to have won at least one of them was 96.4%. Midterm tomorrow, and this is the stuff we're getting tested on. Yay.

Bad Beats

So I've been playing a little bit of poker lately, mostly on yahoo, where it's free. I've been teetering on breaking even at $1,000. So today, I happened to be playing against a girl from Oklahoma, some other random guy, and a guy and a girl, both from Davis (what're the odds, huh?). So on one hand, I'm big blind, and I've got pocket aces. The first person to act is the person to my left (and therefore I'm last to act). So, before I get a chance to get all excited, Oklahoma girl folds. Next guy, folds. Davis guy (who is the small blind, so it only costs him $1 to stay in). Folds. I win $1. Before I even get a chance to bet, it's over. Eh, I guess it's just luck. Others have it worse.
