I love the term "touching base". It's a word that business people use to make themselves feel important, yet it never ceases to amuse me because it makes people who use that phrase sound so blatantly pretentious. After all, when you say to someone, "Let's touch base", are you not simply saying, "Dude, I'll call you"? To me, neither of those sound particularly elegant anyway; my choice of wording would probably resemble the latter.
Yet, at the same time, I hate that word, because it succeeds so well in making people like me who do not use the word feel like boorish bumpkins.
