A day in the city

August 19th

Mid-morning, around 10:30 am:

An underground electric transformer blows out, causing a minor explosion in the middle of downtown. Fears of terrorism, blah blah blah, until everyone realizes it was just a technical problem. A similar explosion occurs a few weeks later at a different location in the city.



1:30pm

Kendra Kassebaum and ????? signing autographs at Sephora. They play Glinda and Elphaba in Wicked, though neither of them performed at the show that I watched.






2:00pm

By now, the streets reopen, and the only thing left is to clean up and figure out how to prevent similar recurrences. In the explosion, a manhole cover blows off, and the window of this Ralph Lauren shop shatters. The decorative cloth covering catches on fire.





3:00pm


All is well on the other side of the city, where the ocean waves faithfully and unrelentingly crash onto the sandy beach.
